Materials: Tempestry Rainbow Pride Bundle (or equivalent yarn, 25g/55yds each of 6 colors); US J crochet hook.
(This garland was adapted from a free heart pattern I found online many years ago but no longer seems to be available. This is not my original pattern, and I am grateful to whomever it was that came up with this super sweet, super quick, super cheerful heart pattern!)
Hold the yarn doubled as follows:
Heart 1: Two strands of red (from inside and outside of the cake)
Heart 2: 1 strand red, 1 strand orange
Heart 3: 2 strands orange
Heart 4: 1 strand orange, 1 strand yellow
Heart 5: 2 strands yellow
Heart 6: 1 strand yellow, 1 strand green
Heart 7: 2 strands green
Heart 8: 1 strand green, 1 strand blue
Heart 9: 2 strands blue
Heart 10: 1 strand blue, 1 strand purple
Heart 11: 2 strands purple
KEY: ch = chain stitch; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; tc = triple crochet.
To work each heart:
ch 5; join with sl st to form a loop.
Round 1:
ch 3. 10 dc into loop; 1 sl st in first ch st.
Round 2:
ch 3; 3 trc in same first ch st.
3 trc in next st.
1 dc, 1 hdc in next st.
1 sc in next 2 sts.
1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc in next st.
1 sc in next 2 sts.
1 hdc, 1 dc in next st.
3 trc in next st.
3 trc, 1 dc in next st.
sl st in first st.
Cut yarn, tie off, and weave in ends. Tie a knot with your cut yarn, leaving an approx. 1/2″ loop for hanging.
Soak in cool water for 30 minutes; squeeze out excess water and lay out on a blocking board or dry towel, leave until dry.
To form garland: Chain 15 stitches in scrap yarn of your choice, attach first heart, chain 20, attach 2nd heart, etc, ending with 15 chain stiches after 11th heart. Hang up your garland somewhere & smile!
