Behind the scenes (It’s nice to meet you!)

Hi! We are Justin Connelly, Marissa Connelly, and Emily McNeil — the folks behind The Tempestry Project.

Emily has a background in academic library geekery and, more recently, did a deep dive into the world of fiber arts. By day she manages a wonderful local yarn shop, Fidalgo Artisan Yarn & Clothing in Anacortes, WA. By night she designs, knits, and breathes Tempestry. Her knitwear has made appearances at the Whidbey Island Fair, FutureFest Anacortes 2018, the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Art Museum, the Stitches West Fashion Show 2018, and innumerable weddings, dances, graduations, birthdays, and blizzards. (There’s nothing like a cozy alpaca scarf in the middle of a snowstorm!)

Marissa is a Senior Care specialist and CNA here in Anacortes, and in her non-existent spare time is well on her way to becoming a master knitter. Her Tempestry work has been exhibited on multiple occasions including at the Whidbey Island Fair, FutureFest Anacortes 2018, the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Art Museum, and soon at the Creative Climate Awards Exhibit in New York City!

Justin is the mastermind behind the idea of universalizing temperature knitting into a meaningful, powerful, collaborative visualization of our changing climate. He spends his time knee-deep in NOAA data when he’s not coming up with more ingenious ideas (see Needle Wranglers!).  He has also been known on occasion to pick up a pair of knitting needles and knit a hat or two.

Jayna, kiddo extraordinaire, is our biggest supporter and enthusiastic helper. She has already collected quite a stash of remnant yarns, insists on bringing a project bag wherever she goes, and will soon be knitting herself.

The Llama-monster prefers warm-weather Tempestry-napping. Here shown occupying a Miami winter.
